Treasury professional

Specialism: Financial management

What is a treasury professional and what do they do?

Professionals in this field contribute to financial risk mitigation strategies for a business. They monitor economic factors such as interest rate rises, changes in regulations and foreign exchange rates, assessing the organisation’s level of exposure and determining strategies to mitigate any potential financial risks to the business.

Treasurers also use their expertise to provide risk-based insight to inform decision making around key strategic initiatives such as acquisitions and expansion into new territories. The role of a treasury professional is to optimise a company's liquidity and make sound financial investments to ensure that the business has the money it needs to pay its bills or undertake new ventures.

While the accountancy profession offers diverse career options and paths, the core capabilities required to perform at the highest standards remain the same - irrespective of skill level or job role.

Certificate in treasury

Effective treasury management is without doubt a significant contributory factor to business success. While specific activities might vary, depending on the nature, location and type of organisation, most treasury functions will have a strong focus on cash and liquidity management, corporate finance and risk management. Each of these key areas is the feature of its own specific unit in the CertT qualification. There is also a separate unit focused on technology, ethics and governance which all have a direct impact on treasury decision-making. Ultimately, the intention is that through developing knowledge of all these areas you will be able to make better-informed decisions in the workplace. This will both enhance the performance of the organisation and support your own personal development.
