Corporate tax accountant

Specialism: Taxation

What is a corporate tax accountant and what do they do?

Corporate tax, also called corporation tax or company tax, is a direct tax collected by the government as a source of income. Corporate tax is based on profits and must be paid by entities such as limited companies and also by foreign companies with a national branch in many countries.

If a company is liable for corporate tax, they must calculate their profit for each period and the amount of tax they need to pay. This information must be reported to the government department responsible for tax (HMRC, for example, in the UK) on a corporation tax return form with the accounts and tax computations submitted in support.

Corporate tax accountants help with the preparation of company accounts, company tax returns and tax computations. They can also provide advice on tax strategies that could benefit the organisation and the best way to structure the business for growth and risk mitigation.

A corporation tax accountant will normally report in to a corporation tax manager, who may report in to potentially the director of tax or tax partner.
