Internal audit executive

Specialism: Audit and assurance

What is an internal audit executive and what do they do?

Internal audit executives work as part of in-house teams, employed by the organisation. They use a systematic methodology to examine how internal processes are working and whether these could be improved. They are responsible for reviewing the operating effectiveness of the controls as well as the financial reliability and compliance with laws and regulations. Their work may be driven by the audit committee to address key risks identified or considered due to changes in the business or due to external factors (including issues identified by external audit teams).
